Presqu'ile Winery produces wines from Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills with an emphasis on cool climate sites. Winemaker, Dieter Cronje, pulls from small vineyard lots and lets the grapes shine through very minimal intervention in his winemaking practice. They utilize gravity flow: a winery-design style meaning that there are no pumps or machinery used. The gentle process of gravity pulling ensures that there is no over-extraction or heavy oxidation in the wine. The result is evident in the wine: a bright, medium-bodied, Pinot Noir.
Past vintages of this wine have a forest-floor earthiness about them. However, the 2023 Presqu'ile Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir is a vibrant wine with high-toned red fruit and pretty floral aromatics. The palate is loaded with juicy red cranberries and might be at its best with a slight chill! There is a faint hint of forest-floor and tilled soil nuance that I suspect might develop as the wine gets a little more bottle age. Overall, this Pinot is full of energy and liveliness that is so punchy and refreshing!
