Craig Jaffurs' eponymous winery has been considered a powerhouse of Syrah since the winery was founded in 1994. Current winemaker Steven Searle steers Syrah's vision true with his decade of experience in the Jaffurs vineyards. Hailing from such storied vineyards as Bien Nacido, Stolpman Fiddlestix, Kimsey, and more across Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, the Jaffurs wines show spice, complexity, and a sense of place.
Their 'State Street Syrah' is an homage to the 'Main Street' of their home turf in Santa Barbara and blends fruit from their single vineyard bottlings into a youthful, approachable, quaffable red at a price that is more than half of what their single vineyard bottlings fetch. Rich dark fruit and peppery spice are accented purple floral notes. This wine shows its pedigree and punches above its weight.
This new, value-priced label from longtime Syrah master Jaffurs is a stunner, with loads of energy alongside ample complexity. Smashed plum, lilac, roasted meat and pepper make for an elegant nose. Young tannins grip the sip, framing penetrating flavors of purple fruit and peppery spice with zippy acidity from font to finish.
