Rias Baixas is in the north western region of Spain, right up against the Atlantic Ocean. This area is packed with deposits of granite and schist. There are numerous rivers and estuaries there that have created pockets of fertile alluvial top soils above these mineral deposits. Combine this with the cool maritime climate, and you have an area that's quite perfectly suited for sleek, expressive Albarino!
The locals have known this for some time: over 90% of the vineyard plantings across Rias Baixas are Albarino. The wineries here have spent generations honing their craft of this specific varietal. More specifically, Terras Gauda routinely produces award-winning white wines all of which are made from estate-grown fruit. The 2022 'O Rosal' Albarino Blend offers a lovely bouquet of ocean spray saltiness, zesty lemon-lime, and tangy tangerine on the nose. Fresh herbs of thyme and tarragon lie faintly in the background while slightly riper fruits of peach and nectarine complement the bright citrus notes on the palate. I love the racy acidity and saline finish here.
A nose of mixed citrus fruits prepares the taste buds for nectarine, passion fruit, mango and lemon-sorbet flavors. A soft note of rose petal and honeysuckle lingers on the palate.
Tangy and bright with lime citrus and seashells on the nose. Chalky and zesty palate with a medium body and a bone-dry and deliciously saline finish. Drink now.
A linear white, with good drive and focus to flavors of Mandarin orange, wild strawberry, grated ginger and fresh tarragon. Though svelte in form, there's a light, pleasing plushness to texture, working well with the mouthwatering acidity and briny base note. Albariño, Caiño and Loureiro. Drink now through 2028.
