The 2019 Terminim 'Alder Springs Vineyard' Syrah is made by the iconic Don Patz, who was the founder of Patz & Hall. This wine was made in partnership with the famous Francois Villard who is one of the top producers in the northern Rhone Valley of France so this is one royal partnership! The Alder Springs Vineyard is located in a remote mountainous corner of Mendocino only 12 miles from the ocean and at 1700 to 2700 feet of elevation. It was first planted in 1993 and it is one of the most extreme and highly sought-after vineyard sites in the state.
This wine is a massive mouth-filling explosion of black fruits, macerated berries, and smoky blueberry compote that is layered with hints of bacon fat and herb and graphite minerality. This wine is muscular with gorgeously intense tannins that are chewy but ripe, silky, and fine-grained.This is truly a world-class Syrah that will age for two decades but with a splash in the decanter, this wine is stunning even now.
Blackberries, ripe raspberries, cracked black pepper, slate, and black ink pot. Full-bodied yet very tight and compacted with tannins that melt into the wine. Chewy and structured. Some asphalt at the end. Needs time to open. Better in three to four years.
