Jeff Gaffner has led a storied winemaking career in Napa and Sonoma - from crafting award-winning wines at Chateau St Jean, to launching the names of Hestan, Xtant, and Black Kite to fame, he's definitely a name we follow closely. Which is one of the reasons we're such fans of the Saxon Brown wines. Saxon Brown is Gaffner's personal passion project. As Jeff says, "I created Saxon Brown so I could make the wines I like to drink every day." Balanced, approachable, affordable, and delicious, these wines caught our eye early on and have been practically a constant on the Meritage shelves.
His 'Fighting Brothers' Zinfandel is so named because it's a blend of two different vineyards in Sonoma Valley, one with old vines and another with younger vines. Gaffner named the wine after his sons, who have become a pretty harmonious pair over the years, and that's how he feels about the source material here, too. Bold blackberry and black cherry, spicy cinnamon stick, and cocoa, this Zin is rich but not syrupy, youthful but ready to drink!
