Gravels is our ‘village’ level blend, based on a handful of vineyards that are planted upon gravelly soils and dedicated to the Mediterranean varietals that established the foundation of our program. Since our first bottling in 2018 this has been the lone blend in our line-up. It’s a wine built to over-deliver, providing an everyday Red meant for any occasion.
In 2022 we selected three distinct sources for Gravels, all of which contribute to this wine's core intent. It’s a bottling that emblemizes the vintage’s red-fruit character and high-toned freshness. Our picking decisions in 2022 had much to do with relative ripeness based on the early September heat, leading to a span of 50 days between the first and last picks. The youngest vines from Cemetery were first to arrive in late August while the Mourvèdre from Placida closed out our harvest in mid-October. We finalized our blend in the spring of 2024 where we bottled a total 690 cases.
Bright aromatics, luxardo cherry, sage, dried rose petal. The palate maintains its red fruit intensity and carries through with supple mid-palate that’s more linear than broad. We suggest serving this bottling at cellar temperature or with a slight chill.
The 2022 Gravels is a gorgeous, beautifully balanced wine. The blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Carignane and 15% Mourvèdre works so well. Understated and delicate, with lovely textural depth, the 2022 is very fine. The 100% stems are not that evident in this vintage. Instead, the 2022 speaks to total balance and class.
This fresh red leads with rubbed sage and floral notes before joining lively and crisp berry and pomegranate flavors. The generous acidity lifts the flavors onto the finish around firming, gravelly tannins, plus late hints of cherry and herbs. Grenache, Carignane and Mourvèdre.
