The 2022 Petite Sirah Alisos Canyon is a blend of Thompson and Nolan, whereas previous vintages were all Thompson. There's a bit more natural ripeness in Nolan, and that very much comes through in the wine's ripe, red-toned profile. A touch of American oak adds sweetness that works so well here. Most importantly, winemaker Stephen Searle tamed the Petite tannins admirably well.
Lastly, the powerhouse 2022 Petite Sirah offers loads of black and blue fruits, some peppery herb and American oak vanilla nuances, full-bodied richness, and a plush, round, yet still precision and focused mouthfeel. All destemmed Petite Sirah aged 10 months in 8% new American oak, it's beautifully done and will age for 10-15 years if well stored.
Rounded aromas of cassis, Luxardo cherry and light herb draw the nose into this bottling. The slightly rustic palate is quite approachable for this brooding variety, offering baked blackberry, chaparral and cracked pepper flavors.
