The 2018 Hermitage has similarities to the 2016 yet with a touch more mid-palate oomph. Notes of cassis, smoked game, vanilla, and a touch of minerality all emerge from the glass, and it's a full-bodied, silky, sexy wine that shows the purity of the vintage. It could be a real superstar and drink well above its price point.
Guigal's 2018s from Hermitage look terrific at this early stage of their development. The 2018 Hermitage features alluring scents of violets, crushed stone and cassis. Alongside those chiseled aromas, the wine is full-bodied and expansive, with a creamy mouthfeel and plenty of power. It finishes long, framed by fine-grained tannins and a lingering raspberry note. Impressive.
