Mingling notions of cassis, cherries and plums with hints of coniferous forest floor and dark chocolate, the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets is medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with an enveloping, multidimensional core, fine energy and a mouthwateringly saline finish.
A brawny, concentrated version, this red evokes black cherry, blackberry, earth and lavender flavors. It's marked by beefy tannins, finishing with dark fruit, spice and iron notes. Best from 2023 through 2038. 75 cases imported.
A mildly toasty nose has enough menthol present to mention on the bright liqueur-like aromas of poached plum, earth and soft spice nuances. There is good volume and an attractively sappy texture to the delicious flavors that deliver good persistence on the slightly rustic finale. In contrast to the preceding wines, this will need at least a few years of patience.
