When it comes to finding new values in the wine world, it's smart to follow the pros as they break into new ventures. The 2018 Long Meadow Ranch Anderson Valley Chardonnay is a combination of Burgundian winemaking ethos and California heritage wineries - where the old school and new meet.
In 2022, Hyde de Villaine's 2018 Chardonnay was the #3 Wine of the Year in Wine Spectator. Little did we know that Hyde de Villaine winemaker and Burgundy native Stephan Vivier had a side project, so to speak, where he brought his award-winning balanced, nervy, sumptuous Chardonnay style to the Anderson Valley for Long Meadow Ranch's cool climate project. It's easy to see why this region is the new 'hot spot' for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Mendocino County after tasting the Long Meadow Ranch wines. This lovely Chardonnay is expressively floral on the nose with peach blossom and jasmine, followed by lemon curd and rich Fuji apple fruit. Ripe yet refined, it drinks with the impressive minerality and balance that reminds us of Hyde de Villaine, but at a third of the price!
"Nose of reductive matchstick with restrained apple and pear. Saline, mineral palate with spiced apple and oak. Vibrant texture and a long savoury finish."
