The 2020 Michel Ecard Savigny-Les-Beaune is one wonderfully delicious red!! Michel Ecard's wines are the definition of 'hand-made': hand-harvested pressed in a hand-cranked press, and then hand-bottled. This family estate practices organic viticulture and uses only native yeast, adding almost no sulfur to their wines and churning out consistent deliciousness from their estate-owned vineyards.
Savigny Les Beaune, a hillside hamlet just south of the Grand Cru hill of Corton, and just north of Beaune, the heart of Burgundy, has become one of the most sought-after spots where we can still find fabulous values in the face of ever-rising prices in Burgundy. Savigny Les Beaune is enjoying its time in the literal and figurative sun as prime real estate due to warmer temps allowing this area to produce Pinot Noir of beautifully surprising quality and depth. 50 to 60-year-old vines sourced from a blend of four of their individual vineyard sites are the key. Dazzling red cherry with floral notes of vanilla blossom and hibiscus adding depth to fresh cranberry and Bing cherry, this is a bright and inviting wine right from the first whiff! Juicier strawberry and black cherry on the palate mingle with mesquite smoke, and cardamom that plays off of the darker notes that unfurl in the glass.
